Actually “good men” are stopping “the jerks.” We hate the jerks as much as you do. I came out of the 60s when “free love” was essentially one person feeling they could safely put their arms around another person and it meant nothing more than friendship. Of course, jerks ruined it eventually, but it was good while it lasted. Believe it or not, all that hugging felt great, and we could just be friends and we felt a sense of kinship. Now a student can be expelled or arrested for putting his hand on a girl’s (or boy’s) shoulder. I guess what I’m saying—and tried to say in my article—is we’re driving ourselves away from each other. I remember watching Star Trek in my younger years and wondering why nobody touched. “What an awful way to live,” I thought, but we’re getting closer to that every day. Someone needs to goose Spock.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
