Amazing story, Yonatan. I’d heard of “unqualified immunity,” but never witnessed (or read) instances where it protected the police so completely—or effectively. The law was originally conceived to prevent police officers from charges of “dereliction of duties.” Now it protects them in some of the most ridiculous of ways. Your opening case of the homeless man is truly pathetic. The courts should truly be ashamed.
