Excellent rules for writing. While I haven't spent a lot of time reading Tolkien in the past, I think it's time to pick him up again. While we all know (we being writers) imagination is key, developing a process to use that imagination in, let's say, a productive way isn't always easy. What you've outlined here is both practical and, to my mind, very productive. Thanks for putting this together. I truly enjoyed it.
