Fixing Stupid.

Let me tell you, America, you don’t fix it by prolonging it.

“In the place of judgement — wickedness was there, in the place of justice — wickedness was there.” Ecclesiastes 16

It isn’t easy fixing stupid, especially on a national scale. Some would say it’s a thankless task, others see a glimmer of hope. Not that they necessarily want America to be less dumb. It is, after all, what makes America governable, or as it’s written in Ecclesiastes 18, “Humans have no advantage over animals.”

Stupidity is one of America’s greatest democratic traits, mostly because it gives everyone a chance to make mistakes. As we saw last November, America elected Donald Trump for a second term, even though his first term was so embarrassing, he tried to fight a pandemic with an anti-parasitic.

We survive on hope, as they say, and there’s nothing more hopeful than someone promising to put you in an even bigger double-wide trailer.

People have short memories, though. You can wrap a good story around America being great again, and everyone’s ready to listen. Why not if you’ve been living in a double-wide with no back door for the last twenty years? We survive on hope, as they say, and there’s nothing more…

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
