I agree with you about “time suck,” Jon. And you’re right about us letting it happen. We like to be diverted. And maybe there’s a reason for this. We’re simply not committed and we haven’t asked ourselves why. It wasn’t until I left advertising after many years that time became valuable to me. When I started my first novel, it became even more valuable. I realized how much energy was required to write anything meaningful. And that made me question everything that took up my time. I no longer wanted to be diverted. I wanted to be efficient. Until we realize how important time is, we’ll continue to divert, to watch Netflix, to spend hours and hours trying to understand a new operating system or a carrier plan. All of this is lost time or “time suck” as you described. It’s wasteful and we won’t get that time back. Thanks for this piece.
