I doubt there’s a person reading this who doesn’t imagine they think. Sitting in rush hour, going around on the riding mower, of course they think. That’s a far cry from real thinking. Worrying about bills, taxes, the kids—this takes up most of people’s thoughts. The idea of thinking for the purpose of imagining different possibilities in life isn’t common—it’s very rare. Here’s the worst thing about cellphones. What used to be thinking time (even if it was just bills, etc.) is now spent staring at a screen. Thought has diminished dramatically and we will suffer for it. Same with the news. Some news organizations like Fox only give one interpretation. That’s because they don’t believe you’re capable of thinking. Other organizations give two sides, but you have to choose between the two. The events of the last four days have proven our ability to choose before/against—but nothing else.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
