I’m not quite sure why Black Lives Matter would take up the banner of Fidel Castro. The Cuban Revolution occurred because of vast corruption under the Bastista government (and governments before him). This wasn’t racism, this was out-and-out corruption. Castro was an idealist. He believed Communism could take Cuba out of the age of dictatorships. Yet he became a dictator himself and all his talk about “fair division of wealth” fell apart in later years when his own personal wealth was estimated at $900 million and he owned over 20 mansions and an 88-foot yacht. So I seriously doubt Castro’s revolution should serve as an example to Black Lives Matter. Che Guevara was a better example but, again, his idealism was hard to employ and disastrous in the end. I guess I’m saying “Choose your revolutions wisely.” With the exception of the American Revolution, most revolutions have collapsed or destroyed the fabric of society (practically all, in fact). In other words, revolution isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
