Really good information, P.D. I’ve done weights for 4o years, usually around three times a week (I do a lot of walking on the other days). You’re right about conflicting information. I’ve done longer rest periods and shorter rest periods. I never quite understood the difference. Lifting “to failure” makes the most sense and I totally agree. I’d also caution readers (as you did) about lifting more than you should. I’ve only hurt myself once, and that was the cause. You can always work up to heavier weights. Everyone’s so eager to bulk up as fast as possible these days. If you pull a tendon, you could be out for a month. Better to concentrate on being healthy first. You’ll look good in time (or you’ll grow old like me and just be happy you’re not sagging). Thanks for the piece, P. D.
