Social media is exactly a tool. I remember so many brain-storming meetings where people introduced LinkedIn, Facebook and Tumblr as creative ideas. No wonder we got confused (or they got confused). Some of us do start off “bankrupt” of followers, while others start with a hundred friends. The true test is time, what you present, and how it resonates. You can’t keep using your friends to convince others you’re popular — or you’re writing something important. In fact, you’ll never improve with friends. They don’t care what you write. It’s like a rock star surrounded by wannabe rock stars. The compliments flow, the criticism disappears. Eventually, so does the rock star.
