Take this from a writer who was turned down by 175 publishers and agents before one agent accepted my novel. Even when you’re published and have your book distributed around the world, you still have a long way to go — with many setbacks, many soul-crushing moments. I’ve spent hundreds — possibly thousands — of hours promoting my work. This is while I continue writing and continue to have way more bad news than good news. I’m absolutely amazed at how many people call themselves “best-selling authors.” There aren’t that many “best selling authors” in the world. My agent just informed me that there were 650,000 new titles launched in 2015. This is what we’re all up against. It takes a hell of a lot more than passion, believe me. I enjoy the advice given here — and I agree with most of it. But you’d better be damn sure you’re ready for the storm. It’s a big one.
