The attack at Standing Rock is a disgrace and I applaud your calling out President Obama. The rights of Native Americans have been sullied, abused and, more often than not, ignored. The use of water cannons, rubber bullets and tear gas is a human rights issue, and the authorities involved should be charged (severely charged). During the election, we heard candidates like Ted Cruz promise to uphold The Constitution, something he said is the wish of all Republicans. If they stand with hands in their pockets over the next four years and allow pipelines which clearly infringe (read invade) on native lands, then this is not upholding The Constitution or Bill of Rights. Obama has a chance to make constitutional amendments (and veto power) to protect Native Rights, and he should be doing something about it right now. If he doesn’t, Trump will give the oil companies free reign, something he’s already intimated. Republican senators are already impressing upon him the importance of legislation that will allow oil companies to move forward with their pipelines unimpeded. If this comes to pass, we’ll have more encroachment, more violence and more general stupidity.
