These are fascinating studies, Benjamin. So much of what makes us old is losing the responsibilities that kept us thinking. Retirement is supposed to be relaxing, but I think it leads to uselessness. The common complaint among seniors is “Nobody needs me anymore.” Maintaining some form of responsibility and “neededness” is healthy. When dogs and pets are brought into nursing homes, they work miracles. I think that’s part of “neediness,” too. Good piece and well thought out. Thanks.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
