Toxic environments always show themselves in one way or another, William. I had a case where the head of a company said he’d call me on Tuesday. He didn’t get back until Thursday, saying he was out of town on important business. I thought that’s why we have mobiles. Isn’t everyone at the airport calling someone, updating them, returning messages? I’ve learned over many, many years to listen to the hair’s bristling on your neck. Never ignore those hairs. It’s one thing to work your ass off, it’s another to work your ass off for the wrong people. I’ve dealt with a lot of the wrong people over the years. It’s never worth it.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
