Very informative piece, Shaunta. Thanks. I made the mistake of thinking novels have an organic way of reaching an audience. My sales went absolutely nowhere. Building a mailing list was the smartest thing I ever did. The second was finding social media sites that attracted people like me, meaning people interested in similar things. If you stick with sites like Facebook — despite its audience numbers — it may not encompass the people who could be very passionate about your writing. That doesn’t mean those people aren’t out there. You just need the right social media (I love beeBee and here, of course). I also agree with your comment about blog/post content. People want to read about what will help them. If you can combine that with what you’re writing about, you found the right formula. Thanks for your post.

I did a poor imitation of Don Draper for 40 years before writing my first novel. I'm currently in the final stages of a children's book. Lucky me.
