What a horrible shame. Imagine Los Angeles if this system had grown naturally, building new spur lines, reaching out to the new suburbs. Then again, would Los Angeles and California have strict environmental laws today if they hadn’t seen—and experienced—the inevitable smog of so many cars and trucks? It’s hard to say, but it sounds like the city lost something very valuable removing these street cars and sending them to the junk heap.
