You may have something here, Peter. I think what turned me off conventional news was—and is—noncontructive. Journalists, and more importantly publishers, have to be aware that “filling holes,” essentially using AP feeds does nothing to promote the identity of a newspaper. It also fails to recognize the character of the readership. More than anything, though, publishers have demanded a sameness to reporting. Last week, someone posted a paragraph of Hunter S. Thompson. I did something similar a few weeks before. Have we so few journalists today who are quotable? I’m a humorist/journalist. Who’s out there today like Dave Barry or Hunter? What newspapers even care about humorous stories?
